What’s Your Vision for Tacony Creek Park?

The Tacony Creek Park Master Plan is underway! Working with our partner, Natural Lands, we have started the Master Site Development Plan for the 300-acre Tacony Creek Park, which includes the Juniata Golf Course and the planned and partially constructed Frankford Creek Greenway

What is a Master Plan? It’s a long-term, comprehensive document used in urban planning. This plan and process will engaging with neighbors to create a vision of what they would love to see in the park , and to guide future programs and improvements. This plan will encourage public use, strengthen connections with communities, and foster advocacy for and stewardship of the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed. This is more important than ever — as we have seen with Covid and the climate crisis, there is a greater need than ever for accessible public green spaces!

Tacony Creek Park is located in the heart of some of Philadelphia’s most ethnically and culturally diverse neighborhoods, with many different languages spoken in the area. The last Master Plan, completed in 1997, focused on park conservation and ecology. This plan centers community, access, and equity. Both Tacony Creek and Frankford Creek run through historically industrialized high-density areas, which are lacking in access to green space and associated recreational opportunities. This is a huge opportunity for the community to imagine and shape what you want to see for the future of Tacony Creek Park!

This plan is made possible by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnerships Program, the William Penn Foundation, and the Scattergood Foundation. Our special thanks to the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation staff for their amazing support of this process.
