By Katie Leander, Walk with Me Leader
Hello, neighbors and TTF friends! My name is Katie, and I am a homeschooling mom and friend of Tacony Creek Park.
After many years of enjoying all that the TTF Watershed offers, I recently took the fun step of becoming a walking group leader. Although I was born and raised in Oregon, my family has lived in East Oak Lane for the past 10 years. I love getting to know people and am always searching for nature in the city, so leading a walking group is a perfect fit!
We are members of New Life Philly church, at D Street and the Boulevard, and for years we have led nature church camps, gone for walks and bike rides, picked up trash, and run in Tacony Creek Park. However, during the pandemic, our family found Tacony Creek Park to be a refuge — a place where we could get out of our home and explore, and even socialize outdoors in a way that felt safe to everyone.
We downloaded the iNaturalist app and started to get to know our plant and animal neighbors — the spring flowers, edible greens, migrating warblers, and busy beavers that frequent the park. Suddenly, this park became an extension of our backyard! Our kids love biking from mural to mural, climbing rocks, and spotting the turtles that sun themselves in the creek.
We are always excited to introduce neighbors to this park. Perhaps we’ll see you out on a walk some Friday morning!

Join your neighbors every Friday or Saturday morning, or Sunday afternoon for a healthy and empowering stroll on the Tacony Creek Park trail.
On Fridays, we meet from 9am–10am at the East Tabor Road & East Olney Avenue gateway.
All are welcome to join us for this free walking group.
The trail is a paved, fairly flat Circuit Trail; all ages and abilities are encouraged to join us. All programs follow Philadelphia Covid guidelines.
